Ticket Touts Licking Lips at Zeppelin Re-union

Ever since the announcement that iconic 70s rockers Led Zeppelin would be reforming for a one-off special concert at the 02 Arena in London, the world has gone crazy for tickets to this unique event. Tickets to the event are set to become the hottest ever sellers and the prospect of getting their hands on them is filling every ticket tout in the Capital with glee as they anticipate making fat profits from the event.

Even the experienced and savvy promoters were taken by surprise by the worldwide interest that the gig attracted. In an effort to make the ticket allocation as fair as possible and to discourage ticket touts, fans were informed that the 20,000 tickets for this charity event would only be offered to those who registered at a website specially set up for the occasion. But, within minutes of the announcement it crashed under the sheer numbers of visitors as millions tried to register. Once the dust settled (the website was moved onto a bigger server and the registration deadline extended), it was revealed that a total of one million people from all over the world had registered for the right to buy one pair of tickets each.

Although the majority may well be Led Zeppelin fans, many of those will undoubtedly have been ticket touts and others hoping to make thousands of pounds on eBay or other auction sites by selling the tickets on. Even before the ballot was drawn, adverts were appearing on the internet offering tickets at up to fifteen times the face value of £125. However, the promoters have promised to cancel any tickets that they can trace as being sold through touts or online auction houses, thus leaving buyers with the unpalatable prospect of being denied entry to the actual gig. So, if you are a fan of the band and you weren’t drawn in the ballot, the chances of getting to see the band are extremely limited, even if you have the limitless financial resources needed to buy tickets on the black market.

What is certain is that if you see any Led Zeppelin tickets for sale anywhere on the internet; eBay, ticket agencies or online classifieds you can be sure that the promoters of the gig will be doing their best to find out who is selling them in order to cancel the tickets. Would you take the chance on paying hundreds, or maybe even thousands for tickets that may not be valid when you turn up at the O2 Arena in November?
